Another Yarra Council street sign, marking out our local heritage. This time it’s Bosisto Street in Richmond – just round the corner, down the street within half-an-hour of home.
We first came across the Bosisto’s as the brand name for a range of Eucalyptus and Tea Tree oils and household products when we were living in Queensland. They’re great by the way! No one’s paying us for saying that!!
Imagine our surprise when we found that there was a real person behind the name and that we were living near where it all began!
That’s one of the joys of local heritage. There are thousands of fascinating stories just around the corner. It’s just a matter of looking.
Now, when we go searching on Trove for pictures like the one below (“The Bulletin” Vol 29, March 26th 1908, p 10), we can feel that the story has a place and that we have become a part of it.
Hope the picture is not too violent… not sure who is going to need the Bosisto’s!
